Daring Bakers March Challenge

i have had the flu twice since the beginning of March, and other sickness inbetween... please bear with me, i know i've neglected this blog woefully. i made the cake, it was delicious, i served it at a baby shower for my friend Amy. i have photos... they are still on my camera. everybody loved the cake, but most people agreed that it would taste better with lemon curd.

i am going away for the weekend and will post pictures and a real post about the challenge when i get back.

Sourdough

look what just came out of the oven...

i've had a new starter going for a couple of weeks, so i've decided to give it a shot and bake sourdough once a week. i am hoping, in all honesty, that i will be able to stop buying bread and just make our own. it's something i truly enjoy.

i'm so bad!

i just noticed how many wonderful comments have been left here... thank you all for visiting! i've neglected this blog woefully in the past and intend to do a much better job with it now :) my darling husband has purchased a domain name for me, and so very shortly this blog will be moving from Blogger to another location. when it's done and ready, i'll post the link here. it will probably take a month or so since i don't have much time to work on it right now.

i promise to answer any and all questions a little later on this afternoon, in this post!

Daring Bakers February Challenge

well, i finished it late last night. to borrow an expression from Randy Jackson, "it was just okay for me, dog... just okay". i like making bread, i enjoy the process from start to finish. but the end product for me this time was just okay. it's a little too salty, and i find the crumb to be a little moist.

what am i talking about? French Bread! the recipe at first intimidated me greatly - SO many instructions, via Julia Child's recipe! however, once you read it through and just take it one step at a time, it's not intimidating at all and it's really an enjoyable dough to work with.

Et voila - a picture of the finished product. Sort of lumpy looking in the picture, although in real life the loaf looked a little better. I will definitely make this again, with an adjustment of about half the amount of salt called for in the recipe. the real excitement begins...

I am so excited! i finally got my invite for Daring Bakers, got myself all logged in and all... and i am REALLY super excited over this month's challenge. i can't wait to get cracking on it :)

recently i've found myself surrounded by opportunities to bake, and with my new camera i'm really happy to start documenting my little projects. thanks to my husband who cannot stand a mess, my kitchen peninsula is clean and clear, aside from my birthday cards, and ready to go! hooray!

post numero uno

ooh i'm so excited... i just made my second blog. okay my other one will probably just cease to exist, i haven't done a thing with it since making it.

but this... well, anyone who knows me knows that anything involving baking or cooking is a passion with me. especially desserts. and since Brian has bestowed the title of "Queen of Desserts" on me for several years now, i was so happy to find that it was available as a blog address! yay!!

well, i'm not going to do anything particularly food related in this post. i fell down the basement stairs last night and i'm very sore. however, in the future, this will be the home of all of my Daring Bakers challenge posts, and any other food related things that i feel like letting the world know about from my teeny tiny kitchen with the big huge peninsula!
